“Grandma Nurse is too pure to do anything about it but I ain’t! If they even think of hanging her, it’ll be the end of that whole town! I’ll curse them all myself until they’re forced to let her go!” she stopped in front of the fire and looked up at the sky, “Did you hear that devil?!” she yelled, “I want to make a pact with you. I’ll sell you my soul if you curse every man woman and child in the town of Salem that believes my grandmother is a witch!” she closed her eyes and spread out her arms as if offering herself. She stood there for a moment waiting. Nothing happened. The trees were still, the wind was still and the crickets were as loud as ever.
Finally she dropped her arms and sighed, “Come on! Come and get me devil! Release my grandma’s soul and take mine instead!” again the forest was quiet, “What am I doing wrong?” she mumbled to herself, “Dancing! That’s right I’m supposed to dance!” so the young girl started jumping and twirling around the fire. Then she started humming while she danced around. Her steps followed in time with the made up tune that rang in her ears. As she went the song got faster and louder. Her feet and arms were quicker and sharper. A slight wind blew her hair all around her face.
“More fire.” she wasn’t sure if she had said it or if she had heard the voice in her head. Still dancing she picked up anything that would burn. Grass, leaves, sticks were all thrown on top of the fire. She brought more and more until the fire reached up to her waist. Then she started spinning. She spun around and around, faster and faster until her mind when numb.
Then all of a sudden she heard a scream. She stopped spinning and her head whipped up towards the sound. Streaks of light were shooting across the sky. She stumbled back but couldn’t take her eyes off the bright shooting stars that seemed to be spinning.
Another scream came from the top of a tree. She turned and tried to find the source. A black figure came down from tops of the leaves. If flew down like a ghost right at her face. She cried out and ducked. At that moment a gust of wind blew threw the clearing, making the fire swell up to almost twice its original size. She stood and tried to run out of there, but she had only gone a few feet before another tall black shadow stood in front of her. Screaming again she turned, only to run right into a hard tree and fall unconscious to the ground.
